EuropaCorp has just dropped the first trailer for visionary director Luc Besson’s next scifi project Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
Based from the long-running classic graphic novel series Valérian and Laureline, the film stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne as “special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe.”
Together, they embark on a mission to the vast intergalactic city of Alpha, where millions of inhabitants from different species live together in harmony. However, unexpected forces are working in the shadows, putting the human race in peril.

The trailer doesnt offer much about the film’s story just yet, and that’s acceptable. Given that the movie wont come out until summer of next year, we’re pretty much okay with a little teaser for now.
What we do get in the almost 2-minute clip is a plethora of stunning visual effects and imaginative concepts reminiscent of Besson’s previous (and memorable) efforts, such as 1997’s The Fifth Element and 2014’s Lucy. So if you enjoyed these two films before, then you’ll surely be in for another wild ride with Valerian.
The movie also stars Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, John Goodman, Herbie Hancock and Kris Wu, and is expected for release in US theaters on July 21, 2017.
